How this super calculator works

Each year your salary grows, your employer contributes 12% of it (up to the maximum contribution base), and any extra contributions you enter are added. Before-tax contributions pay 15% contributions tax when they enter your fund; after-tax contributions don’t. The balance then earns your chosen return less fees. At retirement, the balance is spread into an annual income that lasts until your chosen age, using your retirement return rate.

Frequently asked questions

What is the super guarantee rate?

The Super Guarantee is 12% of ordinary time earnings, which is the rate since 1 July 2025. Since 1 July 2026, employers must also pay super at the same time as wages (“Payday Super”), with contributions expected to reach your fund within 7 business days.

How much can I contribute to super each year?

For 2026-27 the concessional (before-tax) cap is $32,500 and the non-concessional (after-tax) cap is $130,000. Employer contributions count towards the concessional cap. If you have unused cap from the last five years and a low enough total super balance you may be able to carry it forward. Contributions above the caps can attract extra tax.

Is the result guaranteed?

No. Investment returns, fees, legislation and your salary will vary, so the calculator shows one possible outcome. Try different return rates to see a range.

Why show today’s dollars?

A million dollars in 30 years buys less than a million dollars today. Adjusting for inflation gives you a more realistic idea of what your retirement balance and income could buy.
